Discover the beauty of Amsterdam’s most famous park

Vondelpark

The park is Amsterdam’s most famous park and one of the most beloved public spaces in the Netherlands. Located in the heart of the city, it covers 47 hectares and attracts millions of visitors every year. The park offers a green oasis with vast lawns, ponds, and picturesque paths, perfect for relaxation, sports, and cultural events. Scattered throughout the park, you can find various sculptures, adding to its charm. With its diverse flora and fauna, playgrounds, and cosy terraces, it is a popular destination for locals and tourists.

History

The park opened in 1865 and was originally called Nieuwe Park. In 1867, it was renamed in honor of Dutch poet Joost van den Vondel, whose statue stands in the park. The park was designed by landscape architects Jan David Zocher and his son Louis Paul Zocher. In the 1950s and 1960s, the park underwent a major renovation to modernize it and make it more accessible to the growing number of visitors.
